Requirements

• Fluent spoken Cantonese and fluent written and spoken English are essential because the role involves regular communication with Cantonese-speaking clients and English-speaking colleagues in the UK.

• STPM, UEC, Malaysian Matriculation, A Levels or an equivalent pre-university qualification.

• University graduates in accounting, finance, mathematics, economics or a related discipline are welcome to apply.

• Previous bookkeeping experience is welcome but is not mandatory. Around two years' experience in an accountancy practice would be advantageous.

• Good numerical ability, attention to detail and organisational skills.

• Confident use of Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with Xero or QuickBooks would be advantageous.

• Able to work independently from home while remaining responsive and collaborative with the wider team.

• A proactive attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to delivering good client service.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

• Working Hours: 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM Malaysia time (MYT), including a one-hour unpaid break (9-hour shift; 8 working hours).

UK Time Equivalent

During British Summer Time (BST) – late March to late October: Malaysia is 7 hours ahead of the UK.

• Equivalent UK working hours: 6:00am – 3:00pm UK time

During Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) / UK Winter Time – late October to late March: Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of the UK.

• Equivalent UK working hours: 5:00am – 2:00pm UK time

Location & Work Arrangement

• Permanent Kuala Lumpur office.

• Probation Period: 6 months.

Allowances provided

• Night shift RM300 per month

• Language Allowance (Cantonese) RM200 per month

About the opportunity

Oscar Ip & Co. Chartered Accountants is a well-established UK accountancy and tax practice. We are recruiting a full-time Accounts and Tax Assistant in Kuala Lumpur to support our Accounts and Tax Team supporting our Liverpool & Birmingham office and wider UK client base. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants practical experience in UK accounting and taxation within a supportive, growing team.

The successful candidate will work remotely from home at first. A laptop, access to the required software and other necessary work equipment will be provided. The role is expected to transfer to our permanent Kuala Lumpur office when it opens in spring 2027.

During the initial training period, the employee will work full-time. Working hours will follow the fixed Malaysia shift of 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM, with UK-team training, supervision and communication scheduled within the corresponding UK hours.  The remaining working hours will be used for structured learning, assigned work and independent tasks. The manager will decide when the employee has completed the required training and is ready to work with reduced supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out bookkeeping and maintain accurate, well-organised accounting records for UK clients.

• Assist with the preparation of financial statements, including profit and loss accounts and balance sheets.

• Assist with UK personal tax returns, corporation tax returns and VAT returns under supervision.

• Support senior accountants with accounts preparation, reconciliations and general client work.

• Communicate professionally with colleagues and clients in Cantonese and English.

• Help the team complete work accurately and within agreed deadlines.

• Develop technical knowledge through structured on-the-job training.

• Gross monthly basic salary of RM2800 to RM3500 (depending on qualifications and experience)
• Your contract of employment will be with Amaze Advisory Global Sdn Bhd (Company Registration No. 1593590-V) - our employment partner in Malaysia.
