Deputy Head of IT

We’re partnering with a leading global organisation to appoint a Deputy Head of IT for its growing technology organisation in Malaysia. Working closely with the Head of IT, you’ll help lead a large, multi-disciplinary team and play an important role in shaping the technology hub’s next stage of growth.

With the Malaysia hub continuing to expand in scale and capability, you’ll help strengthen business-critical technology, build local expertise and increase the hub’s contribution across the wider group.

We’re looking for a leader who can set direction, challenge constructively and translate strategy into action, while retaining the technical credibility to lead complex technology teams. Just as importantly, you’ll be comfortable operating without a predefined playbook, bringing your own perspective and creating the path forward.

What you’ll be responsible for

Working closely with the Head of IT, you’ll help lead the technology organisation in Malaysia, with responsibilities spanning:

• Shaping and executing the local technology strategy, roadmap and operating model
• Providing leadership across software development, application and production support, infrastructure and technology operations
• Strengthening production stability, service quality, resilience and operational performance
• Driving modern engineering practices across Agile, DevOps, CI/CD and automation
• Supporting the continued evolution and modernisation of a complex application and technology environment
• Leading technology transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
• Working closely with global and regional technology teams to translate broader technology priorities into effective local execution
• Building stronger internal technology capability, including developing technical and leadership depth across the organisation
• Establishing clear governance, priorities and accountability across technology delivery
• Partnering with business and functional leaders to ensure technology remains closely aligned with business needs
• Bringing structure to complex problems while remaining comfortable challenging existing approaches and proposing something different

What we’re looking for

You could already be operating as a Head of IT, Technology Director, Engineering Director, Head of Technology, Head of Application Development, Head of Production/Application Support, or in a similarly broad technology leadership capacity. More importantly, you’ll bring:

• Significant leadership experience within a large and complex technology environment
• Strong technical credibility, ideally spanning both engineering/development and production or technology operations
• Experience defining technology roadmaps and turning strategy into execution
• Exposure to large application estates and business-critical systems
• Experience with modern engineering and delivery practices, including Agile, DevOps and CI/CD
• The ability to operate effectively within a complex global or regional organisation
• Strong stakeholder management and the confidence to influence senior technology and business leaders
• A mindset that is comfortable with ambiguity, transformation and building things from the ground up
• The confidence to challenge constructively, rather than simply wait for direction

What you'll bring

• Senior technology leadership experience, with exposure to financial services highly preferred.
• Experience in a global capability centre or offshore hub
• A strong background in production support, IT operations or service delivery
• Experience leading large teams of permanent and vendor staff
• A proven track record of managing major incidents and closing audit or regulatory findings
• Exposure to investment, custody, fund administration or capital markets is highly regarded
• A composed, decisive and people-centred leadership style
