Responsibilies:

  • Responsibility & Accountability is a key element of QHSE framework to achieve the Company’s core value highlighted in QHSE Policy.
  • Be aware of Company Integrated Management System policies and procedures
  • Be responsible for the safety of the operation and implementation of the HELP Program.
  • Be accountable for the effectiveness and the safety of processes associated with this specific positions duty & responsibility as identified in the IMS
  • Establish good communication with the Second Engineer/Engine Department regarding equipment repairs, maintenance and planning so as to minimise the risk of delay due to equipment breakdown or downtime;
  • Familiarize him/herself with all mechanical equipment, especially drilling related equipment for maintenance and repair;
  • Ordering Mechanical Maintenance/breakdown spares and maintaining stock levels;
  • To write work scopes for major Mechanical overhauls for approval;
  • Responsible for the upkeep of Mechanical files and drawings onboard especially drilling related;
  • Properly maintain, in accordance with the planned preventive maintenance system, all Mechanical systems especially those which are drilling related including the cranes;
  • Be familiar with all the classification of society's and the authorities' rules and regulation applicable to his/her area of responsibility;
  • Take all necessary safety precautions whenever working on Mechanical systems to ensure his/her own safety and that of those around him/her;
  • Ensure that the systems are properly isolated from all sources of energy and that the correct locking devices, barriers and warning signs are posted;
  • Ensure he/she is converse with the location of rig procedures and operations manuals;
  • Ensure that all reporting procedures and routines are followed and that all paper work is handled efficiently and correctly;
  • Maintain his/her workshop tools and all other working areas in a clean and tidy manner at all times;
  • Participate in safety meetings and emergency drills held onboard;
  • Keep maintenance records and prepare reports concerning the Mechanical installations;
  • Perform any specific duties as so reasonably designated by his/her supervisor.

Authority:

  • Be authorized to stop or interrupt an unsafe activity that can lead to harm to himself/herself, colleagues, company, property, business, operations and environment.
  • Be authorized to react appropriately in response to emergency alarm in the workplace as per guidance on workplace emergency response plan.

Special Duties:

  • Plan and do routine & non-routine activity always considering safety and environment aspects and associated impacts, and always seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain at all times an "Handover book in electronic format" and Daily Log so his/her back to back can quickly get acquainted with the present situation onboard. Copies of the handover have to be sent to the Asset Section Leader and Regional Technical Department at the end of each hitch;
  • Ensure that all verbal or written orders and instructions given or received are fully understood and adhered to prior to commencement of any work;
  • Ensure that all safety routines are followed;
  • Ensure that no work that needs "work permit" is started until proper investigation has been carried out and written approvals have been given;
  • Ensure Safe-Job-Analysis is carried out when necessary;
  • Promptly report all accidents, near-miss accidents and non-conformances through the proper channels;
  • React timely to all corrective action requests;
  • Be familiar with all relevant work and safety procedures issued by the Company and by the Operator, and promote the implementation of same;
  • Carry out his duties according to the rig’s Emergency Preparedness Manual;
  • Inform his/her supervisor of any suggestion to make a safer working environment and be proactive in continually improving efficiency and operation of the unit.

Qualification and Requirements:

  • As a minimum, have attended a recognized Mechanical Engineering 2-year course or equivalent.
  • Should have served in a similar position for at least 2 years and be familiar with all aspects of maintenance on technical equipment on rigs.
  • Shall have a valid health certificate and be legally registered as Mechanic by the relevant authority.
  • Must have a valid offshore survival certificate.
