Painting Operations Manager (Automotive Manufacturing)

Company: Delloyd Industries (M) Sdn Bhd

Location: Malaysia

Employment Type: Full-Time | Managerial Position

About the Opportunity

Delloyd Industries is seeking an experienced and technically competent Painting Operations Manager to lead our automotive plastic component painting operations.

We are looking for a hands-on leader who understands the complexities of automotive spray painting, robotic automation, paint process control and production management.

The successful candidate must be capable of driving operational excellence, resolving recurring technical problems, improving first-pass yield and developing a strong, accountable painting team.

This is a key leadership position requiring both technical expertise and strong shop-floor management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Painting Operations & Production Management

  • Lead daily paint shop operations to achieve production output, quality, delivery and cost targets.
  • Manage manpower, shift operations, production planning and equipment utilisation.
  • Improve productivity, line efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Establish effective daily performance reviews and corrective action follow-up.

2. Robotic Painting & Process Engineering

  • Oversee robotic and manual spray painting processes for automotive plastic components.
  • Optimise spray parameters, gun settings, atomising air, paint flow, spray patterns and robot teaching.
  • Ensure consistent paint application, film thickness, appearance and colour quality.
  • Troubleshoot painting defects, including orange peel, runs, sagging, overspray, contamination, pinholes and uneven coating.
  • Work closely with technical teams and equipment suppliers to resolve recurring process and equipment problems.

3. Quality & Process Stability

  • Drive improvements in first-pass yield, defect rates, rework and paint consumption.
  • Identify root causes of recurring paint defects and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintain effective process controls covering paint mixing, viscosity, spray application, flash-off and curing.
  • Ensure painting processes consistently meet automotive customer quality requirements.

4. Equipment Reliability & Preventive Maintenance

  • Coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to improve robot, spray equipment, conveyor, booth and oven reliability.
  • Minimise unplanned downtime through effective troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure equipment settings and process parameters are properly documented, controlled and maintained.

5. Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, coach and develop production supervisors, technicians and paint shop personnel.
  • Establish clear accountability, performance standards and technical discipline.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction and operational stability.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Quality, Maintenance and other departments to achieve plant objectives.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Preferably 8–10 years of relevant manufacturing experience, including substantial experience in automotive painting operations and team leadership.
  • Strong practical knowledge of automotive plastic component painting, spray application and coating defects.
  • Experience with robotic painting systems and automated spray equipment is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical painting issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Good understanding of paint process parameters, equipment reliability, production efficiency and quality control.
  • Familiarity with automotive quality systems, including IATF 16949, is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.

The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Have successfully managed automotive paint shop operations.
  • Can independently analyse and resolve complex painting process problems.
  • Understand both the technical and operational aspects of robotic painting.
  • Are comfortable being hands-on at the production floor.
  • Have a proven record of reducing paint defects, improving productivity and developing capable technical teams.
  • Take ownership of results rather than relying solely on equipment suppliers or external support.

Why Join Delloyd Industries?

This position offers the opportunity to lead an important manufacturing operation, drive meaningful technical improvements and contribute directly to the company's operational performance.

We welcome experienced painting professionals who are ready to take on greater responsibility and make a measurable impact.

Interested candidates are invited to apply or reach out for a confidential discussion.
