Software Engineer – Controls & Automation (C# / PLC) | Semiconductor Equipment
Johor Bahru, Malaysia (On-site) | Full-time | Frequent overseas travel
About OUR CLIENT
OUR CLIENT is a global semiconductor equipment and engineering company. They build advanced process tools and wafer-handling automation systems used in chip manufacturing facilities, including equipment front-end modules, robotic end effectors and load ports. Their engineering teams across several countries deliver equipment software, automation and engineering services to semiconductor customers worldwide.
They are now building a new engineering team in Johor Bahru. This is new headcount, not a replacement. The JB team will be the company's local hub for hands-on customer support and international on-site assignments.
The Role
You'll design, build and test software that controls high-precision automated machines. The work runs from Windows C# operator interfaces down to PLC logic and real-time hardware I/O. You'll test your code on real machines in the lab and at customer sites, then make sure the equipment behaves exactly the way the software intends.
What You'll Do
- Develop and test C# (.NET) applications with XAML/WPF interfaces in Visual Studio
- Program and debug PLC logic in Structured Text (IEC 61131-3)
- Build multithreaded applications and software libraries for real-time hardware I/O control, sensors and actuators
- Work across RTOS, Linux and embedded platforms
- Integrate with industrial protocols such as EtherCAT and Modbus
- Validate algorithms on physical prototypes in the lab and on customer equipment
- Own bug fixes, revisions and version control, and write clear documentation for traceability and ISO compliance
- Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical and international engineering teams
- Travel overseas to provide on-site support for customers, including assignments that can last a couple of months
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field
- 1–5 years of experience in industrial software, machine control or automation
- Hands-on experience with Structured Text (IEC 61131-3) PLC programming
- Solid C#/.NET skills, including multithreading, plus XAML/WPF UI development
- Familiarity with EtherCAT / Modbus, I/O libraries, and RTOS or embedded Linux
- Good English communication skills, because you will support customers directly
- Comfortable working hands-on with machines, hardware and diagnostic tools
- Based in Johor, or willing to relocate to JB yourself
- Holds a valid passport and is willing to travel frequently for extended on-site assignments
- Semiconductor equipment experience is a strong plus. Candidates from automation, robotics, machine building, electronics manufacturing or other industrial sectors are also welcome.
Why Join
- Hands-on experience with advanced semiconductor equipment
- International exposure: work with global customers and engineering teams in several countries
- A chance to be part of the founding JB engineering team
- Real technical challenges and room to grow quickly
