• Diploma or Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related scientific field preferred

• 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in an industrial, chemical, or wastewater treatment environment

• Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills

• Ability to perform tasks independently with minimal supervision

• Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel)

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• Willing and able to work 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday), with one scheduled rest day per week

About the role

The Laboratory Technician/ Assistant Chemist provides essential support to the Chemist team, primarily focusing on the collection and preparation of samples for refinery processes and maintaining wastewater treatment operations.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and verify incoming samples

• Register and maintain sample records in the laboratory management system

• Perform sample preparation procedures, including wet digestion, filtration, and related laboratory techniques

• Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of samples and chemical reagents

• Maintain laboratory housekeeping

• Collaborate effectively with chemists, operations, and environmental teams

• Conduct routine monitoring and sampling of wastewater treatment plant performance

• Record and report operational parameters, test results, and abnormalities

• Assist in maintaining compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements

• Support troubleshooting and optimization activities for wastewater treatment processes
