Data Business Analyst – Data Analytics & Governance
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Contract: 6 Months (Highly Renewable)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Data Business Analyst to support our client's data-driven transformation programme. The role combines Business Analysis, SQL/Data Analytics, Data Management, Governance and Stakeholder Management, with exposure to Risk, Cybersecurity and Generative AI.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and analyse business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into BRDs, functional requirements and requirement traceability documentation.

• Investigate business problems at root-cause level and use SQL/data analysis to validate and challenge requirements.

• Perform AS-IS / TO-BE process mapping, gap analysis and process improvement.

• Work closely with business, data, technology and delivery teams to ensure solutions meet requirements.

• Define test scenarios, acceptance criteria and UAT requirements and support testing activities.

• Analyse large datasets and data warehouses to identify trends, issues and data-quality gaps.

• Develop/support standardised data analytics and visualisation tools using Tableau, MicroStrategy, Power BI or similar.

• Present data-driven insights and recommendations to stakeholders.

• Support Data Governance, Risk/Cybersecurity governance forums, change management and transition from project delivery to BAU.

• Support strategic data requirements, data quality initiatives and remediation programmes.

• Identify opportunities to apply Generative AI, LLMs and Agentic AI to data analysis and business processes.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst or Data Analyst in a large-scale environment.

• Strong hands-on SQL, data analysis and data management experience.

• Experience with data warehouses, large-scale data platforms and data quality.

• Strong experience in requirements gathering, BRD, process mapping and stakeholder management.

• Experience with AS-IS/TO-BE, Agile/Waterfall SDLC and UAT.

• Strong data visualisation and storytelling skills using Tableau, MicroStrategy, Power BI or similar.

• Experience with Databricks is preferred.

• Exposure to banking, financial services, Risk, Fraud, Cybersecurity or Financial Crime is highly advantageous.

• Basic understanding of Generative AI, LLMs and Agentic AI.

• Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.

• Strong attention to detail, governance and audit readiness.
