- Identify inspection stages, hold points and witness points before production starts.
- Raise unclear or conflicting requirements to the Project Director for clarification.
2. Inspect incoming materials
- Verify resin, reinforcement, gelcoat, fillers and other materials against approved requirements.
- Check material certificates, batch numbers, shelf life, storage conditions and traceability.
- Record non-compliant materials and escalate their proposed use before fabrication.
3. Monitor FRP manufacturing
- Monitor mould preparation, surface condition, cleanliness and release-agent application.
- Check reinforcement type, orientation, layer sequence, overlaps and local reinforcement against the approved laminate schedule.
- Monitor resin preparation, mixing ratios, application and consolidation according to approved procedures.
- Check for contamination, trapped air, dry fibres, wrinkles and other visible workmanship defects.
- Monitor environmental conditions, curing time and temperature where required.
- For infusion or vacuum processes, monitor the relevant vacuum, leak checks and process records against approved requirements.
4. Carry out in-process and final inspections
- Verify dimensions, laminate thickness, openings, inserts, joints and assembly details at accessible inspection stages.
- Inspect trimming, bonding, secondary lamination and repairs.
- Check completed products for visible cracks, delamination, voids, distortion and surface defects.
- Confirm that identified defects and punch-list items are properly addressed before recommending release.
5. Witness testing
- Witness specified tests, which may include Barcol hardness, dimensional checks, laminate thickness measurements, leak or hydrostatic tests and laminate sample testing.
- Verify test methods, equipment calibration and sample identification.
- Review laboratory reports against specified acceptance criteria.
- Record results and escalate failed or incomplete tests.
6. Manage non-conformances
- Raise factual inspection findings and non-conformance reports supported by photographs, measurements and specification references.
- Review proposed corrective actions and refer technical acceptance decisions to the Project Director or buyer’s authorised representative.
- Witness approved repairs, reinspect affected areas and track findings through closure.
- Escalate any bypassed inspection point, unauthorised material change or departure from approved procedures.
7. Report to the Project Director
- Submit daily inspection updates covering production activities, inspected items, findings, photographs and outstanding actions.
- Prepare weekly summaries of quality status, recurring defects, testing progress and risks to delivery.
- Maintain inspection records, material traceability, test reports and non-conformance registers.
