Role Description

The Senior Project Engineer is a full-time, on-site position based in Selangor, Malaysia. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating engineering projects from project initiation through engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and project close-out.

The role requires strong involvement in Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) projects within the oil & gas industry, particularly greenfield, brownfield, rejuvenation, modification, and EPCC projects.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and coordinate project engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review project scope of work, specifications, drawings, datasheets, engineering documents, and client requirements.
• Develop and monitor project execution plans, engineering schedules, deliverables, and technical milestones.
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and project close-out activities.
• Provide technical oversight for electrical, instrumentation, control, and measurement-related works.
• Coordinate and review engineering deliverables prepared by internal engineering teams, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants.
• Supervise site installation, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
• Ensure project execution complies with applicable industry standards, client specifications, statutory requirements, HSE requirements, and approved project procedures.
• Interface closely with clients, consultants, vendors, subcontractors, construction teams, and other project stakeholders.
• Participate in project meetings, technical discussions, design reviews, site surveys, HAZOP-related actions, constructability reviews, and progress meetings where required.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement appropriate mitigation and recovery actions.
• Manage technical queries, site issues, engineering changes, punch lists, and project documentation.
• Support procurement activities, including technical bid evaluations, vendor clarification, material review, and vendor document approval.
• Coordinate testing, inspection, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), loop checking, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
• Support cost control, variation orders, change management, and project schedule monitoring.
• Prepare technical reports, progress reports, method statements, procedures, work packs, and project close-out documentation.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to Project Engineers, Junior Engineers, technicians, and other project personnel.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute towards improving project execution efficiency, quality, and technical standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant working experience in oil & gas projects, including exposure to both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in EPCC/EPCIC projects, preferably involving electrical, instrumentation, control, or measurement systems.
• Strong experience in project engineering, project execution, planning, coordination, and site implementation.
• Experience in electrical and instrumentation construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and documentation, including Single Line Diagrams, P&IDs, Instrument Loop Diagrams, Hook-Up Drawings, Cable Schedules, Wiring Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Datasheets, and relevant engineering specifications.
• Familiarity with applicable oil & gas industry standards, engineering codes, hazardous-area requirements, and client specifications.
• Ability to coordinate multiple engineering disciplines, contractors, vendors, and site teams.
• Strong project management, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and manage technical and project-related challenges.
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
• Willing and able to travel to project sites and work in industrial or oil & gas facilities when required.

Preferred Competencies

• Previous experience working with major oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy companies.
• Experience in brownfield modification, plant rejuvenation, shutdown, turnaround, or live-plant projects.
• Experience with instrument calibration, control systems, metering systems, electrical distribution systems, and field instrumentation is an added advantage.
• Familiarity with project scheduling and project management software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent tools.
• Professional certifications such as PMP, Professional Engineer, Competent Electrical Personnel, or related technical certifications will be an added advantage.
