What you'll do
Summary Role
The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting the full spectrum of human resource functions across the organization. This role is responsible for driving end-to-end recruitment, managing industrial and employee relations matters, and supporting the design, benchmarking and administration of compensation and benefits programmes. The incumbent partners closely with line managers, unions, employees and external stakeholders to ensure a fair, compliant and engaging workplace, while upholding full compliance with Malaysian Labour Laws. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance operational delivery with strategic HR support.
Main Tasks
Recruitment:
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job description management, advertisements, shortlisting and interviewing.
- Drive collaboration with universities and manage the internship programme to build a strong talent pipeline.
- Conduct pre-employment assessments and reference checks for White Collar (WC) positions.
- Monitor headcount numbers against recruitment and vacancies to ensure alignment with approved manpower plans.
- Prepare HR reporting, including attrition, headcount and Family Bond (FB) reporting (local and global).
- Manage Expatriate matters, including documentation and related processes.
Industrial Relations (IR):
- Manage employee discipline, including handling of misconduct, Domestic Inquiries (DIs), and industrial and labour court proceedings and conciliation.
- Drive the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) process in collaboration with line managers.
- Maintain healthy Union Relations, including facilitating the monthly Union/Management lunch or "teh tarik" engagement sessions.
- Ensure full compliance with Malaysian Labour Laws across all IR and HR practices.
Compensation and Benefits (C&B):
- Manage the Collective Agreement (CA) process, including benchmarking, renewals and negotiation.
- Conduct White Collar (WC) benefits benchmarking and review.
- Lead the Employee Handbook update and ensure policies remain current and compliant.
- Manage the Glint Survey, including administration and analysis of results to support engagement initiatives.
- Maintain and update organisation charts to reflect the current structure.
Competence and Qualification Requirement
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant HR generalist experience, preferably within a manufacturing or unionised environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Malaysian Labour Laws (Employment Act 1955, Industrial Relations Act 1967) and IR practices.
- Experience in recruitment, employee discipline, union engagement and C&B benchmarking.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Proficiency in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
- High integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
