Role Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer (Substation - EPCC) is responsible for the detailed design, technical procurement support, site installation interface, and commissioning of High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation projects. Working within the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) framework, you will ensure project packages are executed on time, within budget, and in strict accordance with client technical specifications and local utility standards (e.g., TNB / ST guidelines).
Key Responsibilities
1. Detailed Engineering & Design Management
Develop and finalize comprehensive electrical engineering deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), Three-Line Diagrams, Protection & Control (P&C) schematics, and wiring/termination schedules.
Perform design calculations for earthing grids, lightning protection, cable sizing (HV/MV/LV), battery banks, and illumination systems using software like ETAP or manual calculations.
Review, optimize, and approve civil-structural interface layouts, including cable trench routing, transformer foundations, and control building layouts.
Manage design changes efficiently by issuing Design Change Notices (DCN) and resolving site Technical Queries (TQ) to prevent project delays.
2. Technical Procurement & Vendor Management
Prepare technical specifications, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and Material Requisition (MR) packages for procurement of major equipment (Transformers, GIS/AIS Switchgear, Control & Relay Panels, SCADA/RTU).
Lead Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) to review vendor proposals, ensure complete alignment with client specifications, and recommend the optimal commercial-technical vendor.
Review and approve vendor engineering drawings and documentation to ensure compatibility with overall plant design.
Attend and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for critical electrical equipment.
3. Site Interfacing, Testing & Commissioning
Provide engineering support to the site construction team, clarifying design intent and resolving physical clashes or execution hurdles.
Coordinate closely with testing and commissioning (T&C) engineers to verify relay setting files, interlocking logic, and control schemes.
Oversee Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and manage the preparation of final "As-Built" drawings and operation manuals for client handover.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems specialization preferred) or equivalent.
Experience: 3 to 7 years of engineering design and execution experience specifically within an EPC contracting environment for utility-scale substations.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in AutoCAD 2D/3D and electrical design tools; hands-on experience with ETAP or DIgSILENT is highly advantageous.
Strong working knowledge of international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI) and local utility regulations.
Direct experience with Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS) systems.
Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation and communication skills to manage demanding clients and varied equipment vendors simultaneously under tight project deadlines.
