Role Overview
A senior sales specialist leads the full project lifecycle for agricultural irrigation projects, from business development through after-sales support. The role combines technical solution design, commercial execution, and customer relationship management. The position serves plantations, farms, estates, agro-industrial businesses, government agencies, and consultants with turnkey irrigation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Sales
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within the Malaysian agriculture and irrigation market.
- Develop new customers and accounts across plantations, farms, agro-industrial businesses, government agencies, consultants, contractors and other agricultural stakeholders.
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline and convert opportunities into orders.
- Manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and customer engagement through to proposal, negotiation and closing.
- Achieve agreed sales, order intake and gross margin targets.
- Develop key accounts and build long-term customer relationships.
- Identify upcoming agricultural and irrigation projects and engage early in the project development cycle.
- Prepare regular sales forecasts and maintain accurate opportunity information in C4C.
2. Irrigation Solution Selling
- Understand customer requirements and develop suitable irrigation solutions in collaboration with internal technical teams.
- Conduct customer meetings, site visits and project assessments.
- Provide technical and commercial recommendations across irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, pumps, filtration, fertigation, and automation and control solutions.
- Work with internal technical teams to develop system concepts, layouts, product selections and commercial proposals.
- Prepare and present quotations, technical proposals and tender submissions aligned with customer requirements.
3. Project & Customer Management
- Coordinate with internal teams, including Logistics, Purchasing and Business Support, to support smooth project execution.
- Maintain regular communication with customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support project handover and coordinate after-sales activities where required.
- Identify opportunities for additional sales, system expansion and replacement within existing accounts.
- Support the timely resolution of customer issues and maintain strong customer relationships.
4. Market & Business Development
- Monitor market trends, customer investment plans, competitor activities, pricing and emerging technologies across the agriculture and irrigation sectors.
- Identify new market segments, applications and potential business opportunities.
- Develop market intelligence and provide regular feedback to management on customer needs, competitor positioning and market opportunities.
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, seminars, customer meetings and other business development activities.
- Build strong relationships with key industry stakeholders, consultants, contractors and strategic partners.
Job Specifications
- Degree/Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture, Agronomy, Agrotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of sales or business development experience, preferably in agriculture, irrigation, plantation, water management, pumps, fertigation, or related technical solutions.
- Experience with plantations, government agencies, contractors, consultants, or agro-industrial customers is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, micro-irrigation, and pivot systems.
- Familiarity with pumps, filtration, fertigation, and automation/control systems.
- Basic knowledge of agronomy and crop water requirements is an advantage.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and customer relationship skills.
- Commercially driven with a customer-focused mindset and proven ability to develop opportunities and close projects.
