We are seeking an experienced and proactive Material Expeditor to ensure timely material availability and support uninterrupted production operations.
This role is responsible for monitoring material shortages, expediting supplier deliveries, maintaining accurate purchase order information in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC), and coordinating material flow to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
Operating in a semiconductor contract manufacturing environment, the successful candidate must be capable of managing high-mix, low-volume production requirements, customer-specified components and materials with long or fluctuating lead times. The key priority is to proactively identify and resolve material shortages that could delay finished goods (FG) completion.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Material Shortage & Bottleneck Management
- Review daily material shortage and bottleneck reports to identify critical components affecting finished goods (FG) production.
- Prioritise shortages based on material need dates, production urgency and the number of FG orders affected.
- Determine appropriate corrective actions, including expediting existing purchase orders, following up on overdue deliveries or coordinating urgent purchases and alternative sourcing.
- Escalate critical material shortages that may affect customer delivery commitments to the Purchasing Manager and Material Planning team.
- Coordinate with relevant parties and communicate any additional expediting costs required to fulfil urgent customer requests.
2. Supplier Coordination & Delivery Expediting
- Obtain written confirmation of committed delivery dates for all open purchase order lines within two working days of PO issuance.
- Follow up consistently on overdue and at-risk purchase orders until firm delivery commitments are secured.
- Maintain accurate supplier communication records and delivery updates in Business Central (BC).
- Negotiate earlier deliveries, partial shipments or split deliveries to meet urgent production requirements.
- Coordinate expedited transportation arrangements, including air freight, courier or hand-carry shipments, subject to cost justification and approval.
- Work closely with Incoming Quality Control (IQC) and suppliers to resolve quality holds, rejected materials and replacement deliveries.
3. Purchase Order & ERP Data Management
- Maintain accurate requested and promised receipt dates in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to support effective material planning.
- Identify and highlight inaccurate or outdated production order dates and forecast requirements for correction by the Planning team.
- Identify purchasing master data issues, including missing supplier pricing, vendor information, purchaser codes, incorrect lead times and minimum order quantities (MOQ).
- Ensure purchase order delivery information reflects actual supplier commitments and material availability.
4. Internal Coordination & Performance Reporting
- Conduct daily material shortage discussions with Purchasing, Planning, Production and Warehouse teams to establish priorities, corrective actions and responsible personnel.
- Provide timely material availability and delivery updates to Sales and Customer Service teams for customer order enquiries, without disclosing supplier pricing.
- Prepare weekly reports covering critical shortages, affected FG orders, supplier delays, expediting activities and delivery improvements.
- Analyse material shortage root causes, including supplier delays, late purchasing, insufficient customer lead times and inaccurate planning dates.
- Monitor supplier delivery performance, contribute to vendor performance reviews and recommend alternative suppliers for recurring delivery issues.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in material expediting, purchasing or material planning within electronics or semiconductor equipment manufacturing.
- Experience in contract manufacturing (CM) or electronics manufacturing services (EMS) is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience managing high-mix, low-volume production, long-lead-time materials and customer-specified components, including connectors, cables, wires, fabricated and machined parts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of material lead times, MOQ, order-by dates, requested delivery dates (RDD), promised receipt dates and multi-level Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Basic knowledge of Incoterms (EXW, FCA), shipping arrangements, import procedures and courier coordination.
